About My Clients

When they first come to therapy, my clients are playing re-runs of past mistakes in their heads, feeling overwhelmed by guilt and shame. Over-committed and feeling like they are always falling short, they look in the mirror and are never satisfied with who they see. It feels impossible to juggle all that life throws at them. They are kind, caring people who struggle to show that same kindness to themselves. You deserve to believe you are good enough, regardless. You do not have to suffer.

My Background and Approach

I’m kind and I am not going to judge you. I have direction and ideas about our therapy and where we need to go. We will work together collaboratively. I am not a therapist who sits and lets you talk for an hour (well maybe, sometimes, if you really need that). I know a lot. You know a lot, and we are here to get things done. I am trained in specific, leading-edge therapy techniques designed to reduce rumination, self-blame, and shame. We will replace quick-fix solutions that are no longer helpful with sustaining, balanced and authentic solutions that actually work for your life. We will start with an initial session and get to know each other. I'll ask about your hopes for change, and for information on the problem as you see it. We will set goals specific to you. I'll give you tools, tips, and information to help in the immediate moment. From there, we'll focus on long-term change so that you can maintain progress, trust yourself, and enjoy the life you are living.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that everyone is capable of change, and if you have the strength to search for help and click on a therapist's profile, you have the strength to participate in therapy and build a life of peace, contentment, and self-compassion. I believe we develop unhelpful behaviors as a result of our life experiences. Most of these behaviors and symptoms start as highly adaptive, until, one day, we realize they aren't helpful anymore. That's not your fault, there is not something inherently wrong with you. When we've spent a lifetime learning these unhelpful behaviors and our body is really, really good at throwing symptoms at us (hey, panic attacks, I see you!), it can be beneficial to sit down with a therapist and unpack what is going on. I am an AAMFT Minority Fellowship Program fellow and I believe anyone who wants therapy should get that service in a way that supports their specific, unique experience. I present and write about collaborating with interpreters for therapy.
